Cingal® is a new advanced, powerful treatment for various types of osteoarthritis.

It is the first pain relieving injection to combine two effective treatments in a single injection, providing the benefits of both an effective corticosteroid for pain and a high concentration hyaluronic acid for joint health. The corticosteroid is fast acting to reduce pain and inflammation in the joint, while the hyaluronic acid works to deliver long lasting pain relief and preserve joint health.

How it works As our joint advance in age they begin to close natural fluid levels. This means that they will typically have lower concentrations of hyaluronic acid in the joint fluid. This fluid is the thick liquid that helps cushion and lubricate our joints. As a result, this reduced fluid effects the cartilage health and begins a period of degenerative changes that often causes osteoarthritis.

The fluid in osteoarthritic joints have less viscosity and elasticity than healthy synovial fluid, decreasing the ability to lubricate the joint and absorb shocks.

What joints can benefit from Hyaluronic Acid treatment? Knees Ankles Spine Hands – fingers and thumbs Shoulders

When our joints suffer from osteoarthritis, there is often not enough natural hyaluronan in the joint, and the quality of that hyaluronan is poorer than normal. Cingalâ„¢ is a visco-supplement that is used to add hyaluronan to the knee joint, replacing what is lost and is used to restore joint health and prevent (slow) further degenerative changes. But it is always important to remember that prevention is better that cure, and it needs to be caught early rather than later!

In addition to the beat quality of Hyaluronic Acid, Cingalâ„¢ also contains a steroid (corticosteroid) triamcinolone hexacetonide, which is a strong anti-inflammatory commonly used to provide short-term and long-lasting pain relief by reducing inflammation that is also commonly associated to joint cartilage degradation. While the steroid is used to reduce pain, the hyaluronan component provides long-lasting pain relief and restore joint health.

Is Hyaluronic Acid Treatment right for me? Living with osteoarthritis is often very painful and debilitating. Osteoarthritis is the most common cause of joint pain, especially in the knees. Although there is no cure for the disease, the sooner it has been shown the sooner you start treatment, the more manageable symptoms may become, and the longer they may be able to delay surgery.

The Procedure Cingalâ„¢ is given in a single injection directly into the joint providing immediate relief to pain and discomfort. This is a very quick procedure done in our out-patient clinic.

What is osteoarthritis? Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common type of arthritis, also known as progressive degenerative joint disease, for which there is no cure. With osteoarthritis of a joint, the joints protective cartilage gradually breaks down and wears away. The bones in the joint that are now exposed rub together, causing pain, swelling, deformity and loss of motion. In addition, small deposits of bone, called bone spurs, may grow on the edges of the joint. These can break off and float inside the joint space, causing even more pain and damage. More than 80% of individuals over 50 years old have some evidence of osteoarthritis and patients suffering from osteoarthritis often face chronic pain that worsens over time. Most commonly affecting middle-aged and older people, osteoarthritis can range from very mild to very severe.
