Injuries can also often include bone trauma, articular cartilage damage, joint pain, ligaments tears, muscular strains, contusions, cramps, tendon strains, bursa, and nerve injuries.

Overuse injuries that are seen at the at Dynamic Osteopaths often result from a sudden increase in training intensity, poor-fitting equipment, biomechanical alterations, muscle imbalances or leg length discrepancies. Our musculoskeletal osteopaths have a very broad experienced background when assessing and treating pain and sports injuries. When looking into sports injuries, Mr Adam Whatley our clinical director assesses the body’s kinetic biomechanical chain, where every single functional human movement will involve a combination of joints and limbs in co-ordinated ways to perform complex tasks. These may include walking, running, kicking and many more.

For muscles to work together, this requires specific firing sequences and synergistic control factors, of which are assessed during a comprehensive assessment here at the Dynamic Osteopaths. Each sequence has its own basic organisation and has impacts on support and stability of segmental links. These combinations work to generate force and energy through each of the links, and efficiently transfer the force and energy to the terminal link. Injuries and adaptation patterns often occur in some areas of this kinetic chain and are often seen to cause problems elsewhere in the system, due to mechanisms of compensation. These changes result in anatomical or biomechanical alterations that increase the risk of injury and/or decrease performance. An example would be a racket player with decreased back mobility can increase the risk of overuse of the shoulder muscles. Effective rehabilitation protocols would aim at balancing these issues.

Mr Adam Whatley is a very experienced Sports Osteopath, who from past experiences in the clinical setting, has gained a huge interest in the area of sports medicine & performance, advanced human kinematics (movement patterns), and clinical neurology, in addition to neuro-musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Within his area of clinical practice, he works in the diagnosis and treatment of neuro-musculoskeletal conditions, dysfunction and clinical medicine.

MUSCULOSKELETAL ULTRASOUND

Sports Injury Clinic Birmingham

Musculoskeletal ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce images of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. At Dynamic Osteopaths, we use musculoskeletal ultrasound to aid diagnosis and treat sports injuries. This technology allows us to visualise the affected area in real-time, which helps us to accurately identify the source of the problem and develop an effective treatment plan.

In certain cases a more vigorous scan may be used, such as an MRI.
