Treatment for rheumatoid arthritis Birmingham and Solihull
Are you suffering with rheumatoid arthritis (RA)? Rheumatoid arthritis can be a very difficult disease to treat and control. We are constantly trying to find new ways of preventing pain and restoring functional mobility. So far there are disease modifying drugs, steroid injections and regenerative form of treatments that work to restore joint homoeostasis like PRP injection treatment. The recent study below (Nov 2020) by the Journal of clinical rheumatology reviews looks at evaluating the efficacy of intra-articular injections of platelet rich plasma (PRP) in rheumatoid arthritis patients and its impact on inflammation, disease progression and quality of life. Adjuvant modern molecular interventions as PRP with a down regulating effect on inflammatory mediators has a proven effect in management of RA. The study evaluated the therapeutic effect of intra-articular PRP versus steroid in RA patients and their impact on inflammatory cytokines IL1B , TNF α and local joint inflammation it concluded that PRP is a safe and effective in treating RA patients with persistent pain and inflammation through its down regulating effect on inflammatory cells with subsequent improvement of local joint inflammation, disease activity and quality of life. Furthermore, when the comparison was made to steroid, PRP maintained further long-term improvements over steroid.
