What is sacroiliac joint pain? 

Where the spine meet a pelvis is a transfer joint that allows small movements to be made to transfer the weight from the spine to the pelvis. This joint is called the sacroiliac joint (SIJ). 

This joint often becomes painful and for a number of reasons - restriction, irritation, inflammation of the capsule that surrounds the joint. Also, this joint is surrounded by a dense network of ligaments that can also become irritated and inflamed.
