OSTEOPATHY SOLIHULL & BIRMINGHAM

Osteopathic Medicine

Osteopathy is an established and recognised system of diagnosis and treatment which places emphasis on the structural integrity of the body, the neuro-musculoskeletal system.  It recognises that much of the pain and disability we suffer stems from abnormalities in the musculoskeletal structure of the body, resulting in dysfunction and ultimately pain or injury.

Osteopathy is a process of medical assessment and diagnosis. In addition, osteopaths assess their patients from a mechanical, functional and postural perspective. The systems of treatment used are subject to diagnoses. Osteopathic techniques aim to ensure the restoration of functional mobility, an adequate flow of blood to all tissues, to remove strains and tensions within the muscles, and to promote good movement through joint complexes, and to preserve spinal and joint health.

HOW CAN  OSTEOPATHY HELP YOU?

Following physical examination and assessment of function, your osteopath can diagnose and discuss with you the most appropriate form of treatment. Osteopathic techniques and treatment are aimed at promoting your body’s ability to restore normal function. Treatment consists of identifying areas of restriction and releasing muscle tension by performing stretching and mobilisations  These applied to restricted joints, such as the spine, shoulders, hips, knees.

Spinal manipulation can also be used and proved very effective for restricted joints, and have been shown to vastly reduce pain, increase joint mobility and to restore function.

Practicing Profession

Over 5,000 osteopaths are currently registered in the UK with the General Osteopathic Council. Those practicing in the UK carry out more than seven million consultations every year, making around 30,000 consultations every working day. Of those consultations, 54% of new patients are seen within one working day of contacting the osteopath and 95% are seen within one week. Further information can be seen at http://www.osteopathy.org.uk/about/our-work/.

The title 'osteopath' is protected by law. It is against the law for anyone to call themselves an osteopath unless they are registered with the GOsC, which sets and promotes high standards of competency, conduct, and safety. The GOsC can, and will, prosecute individuals who practice as osteopaths when they are not on the GOsC Register. For information about what to do if you think someone is practicing as an osteopath but is not on the Register, see our Protection of title page.

Mr. Adam Whatley's Master’s Degree in Osteopathy (Med) is recognised and accredited by the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC), where all who successfully complete the course will be eligible to register as osteopaths with the GOsC.
